The Road to Tehran Blazes Through Damascus (Calling Off America's Bombs article by Dr. Jeffrey Sachs)

Calling off America's Bombs by Dr. Jeffrey Sachs explains the Syrian Conflict in two phases. Phase one was from January 2011 to April 2012—this is when Syrians protested during the Arab Spring. In April 2012, a coalition of foreign secretaries—including then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton—met and formed a coalition in Istanbul to discuss and to put in motion an ambitious plan to arm the Syrian opposition with the hopes of deposing Bashar al Assad.

The US has been involved in the Syrian civil war for almost a year and a half and it has now escalated to out of control proportions, which is why we are just now starting to hear about this—most likely to justify our involvement. On top of everything, our involvement, backing the insurgency/freedom fighters/rebels (whatever you'd like to call them) has nothing to do with Syria at all. We are engaged in a proxy war (on Israel's behalf) and the end game is Iran. Sachs writes that the Obama Administration has adopted the neoconservative philosophy of regime change in the Middle East, and I tend to agree. After all, the rhetoric convincing us to support this bloody endeavor sounds a lot like what happened in Iraq.

Anyway, you can read the article, do some research, and decide for yourself. I've included the first paragraph as well as the link to the website.
